Forties Fabric Reborn ...
Tags: Vintage, vintage fabric, 1940s, curtains, beadboard, cottage style decorating
I spent a little time sewing last week and threw together the curtains for my back hall door. Since Kelly and Jeremy are still living here, I have the use of her Rowenta iron that she got for a shower gift.  What an iron!  I'm going to ask Santa for one this year ...

Anyone who knows me knows I have a thing for fabric.  There are drawers and bins all over the house chock-full of yummy fabric from every era.  If "someday" never comes (and I'm hoping it does!), my kids and grand kids will inherit quite a stash.  Back in March I posted about several fabric choices I was considering.  You can read about it here.  Ultimately I decided to rework old cotton curtains from the 1940s to fit my small back hall door.

Notice the scalloped edge.  Some dear soul did that tedious work by hand.  Each stitch is carefully placed and I imagine she used an old juice glass as a pattern for her curves.  That's what I'd have done.  It was easy peasy to cut them to length and sew a rod pocket.  What do you think?

I don't remember when or where I got these sweet curtains, but I've had them tucked away for years for such a time as this.  Having curtains on this door does block light but I think the privacy is more important.  I wish I'd taken a "before" picture.  Just imagine '80s green and white striped wallpaper, purple morning glories stenciled all the way around the perimeter, and old yellowed linoleum ...

Enjoy your day, friends, and thanks for stopping by.  I'd love you to follow if the urge strikes you.  I promise I'll follow back!

xo,
Lynn

Your curtains are gorgeous. Be proud while the rest of us are envious.

Lovely curtains! I recently updated one of our spare bedrooms and it has a lovely rose print quilt and curtain set to match. Be sure to stop by my blog today, you are mentioned. Happy Friday!

Lynn, I love, love , love the curtains!!! I adore vintage fabrics, though I admit I don't have any myself...one of those 'one of these days' things. They are perfect on the door...very cottage-y and cheery..and the painted sign above the door is perfect! The scallop edges are darling and add a lot of charm, and the print is wonderful...I love the design and the colors. where do you get your fabrics from? My mom had so many tucked away and she always wanted me to bring them back home with me when I'd visit her, but I didn't and now my brother gave them all away to a woman who sews. I guess it's good they went to good use. What is the iron you were talking about? I've never heard of it before. Have a wonderful day, hugs, Marianne

Beautiful! I love that fabric. I vaguely remember curtains similar to that print, hanging in the first house I ever lived in! You have "my" verse in your header! :)

Hello, Lynn...Came by to see your curtains again. You mentioned that having them on the door filters out a lot of light, but I think that the cheery curtains are a delight to see as one descends the stairs, and gives the whole hallway a cool summery feel. I just love them, as you can tell, since I'm back to view them again. Not coveting, just enjoying..tee, hee...Hope your day is as cheery as your curtains! Marianne xo
