more oil cans ... don't ask me why!

I think they say a collection is three or more ... if that's true, I now have a vintage oil can collection.  Don't ask me why.  The estate sale I went to on Friday and Saturday was very close to my house.  I loved the Cape Cod the moment I drove up.  The original owners built it and called it "home" for sixty years.  I got there early and was the first one in the single-stall garage.  Two vintage wire basket hangy-thingys immediately caught my eye and I wiggled them off the wall.  They were $3.00 each.  Next I spied the old oil cans.  There were several but I only bought two.

Yesterday I tried the basket on my front door.  The storm door closes nicely so I intend to fill it will springtime cuteness in lieu of a wreath.  Stay tuned.

Technically the one on the left is a funnel.  It's still cool and old and heavy copper.  It may end up in my etsy shop one of these days.

I love to decorate with vintage bottle brush trees at Christmastime.  There were lots at the sale but I only bought one.  The miniature atlas was a fun find.  It was $3.00.

This vintage tablecloth is headed to my etsy shop.  I saw it on the online pictures of the sale and was glad to have gotten it.  Perfect for spring and summer and in perfect condition.

I went back to the sale around noon on Saturday and bought this little watercolor of a "cottage on a creek" for $10.00.  I mean, how could I resist?!  The owner was an artist and there were two tables of original paintings in the family room.  Most were watercolors and some had paintings on both sides of the paper.  The nudes weren't very popular, but the landscapes and still lifes were selling fast!  Her work was very appealing and it was evident that she loved to paint.

We hit 70-degrees today.  I'll have to turn on the News to see if that's a record for March.  It was downright balmy.  I hope you found some thrifty finds this weekend too.  Oh, and I just remembered I bought an enamelware teapot on Saturday too!  That was pure impulse-buying since I was in the checkout line when I spotted it in the kitchen cupboard.  Oh, the thrill of the hunt!

I promise to follow right back!

Wondering what colors you will use on your door basket, and secretly coveting that little white door. ~Bliss~

Love your finds! The tablecloth looks brand new! I had good luck at yard sales last weekend too....the first ones of the season for me! Have a great week!

Lynn, your buys ....I would have bought too....all so very special but that sweet landscape is just precious!!! I would have bought the nudes (if they were in good taste). I think they would be fabulous in a shabby/Frenchy bath. I tried to buy a nude some time ago at an antique mall. It had no price on it, so I left my name for them to call me. They never did. Too bad....they missed a sale. Enjoy your weather. Ours is definitely beach weather today....it's gawgeous! xo

There is something about old, useful items that get to me, too. To think that decades ago an item was in someone's hand performing a task they needed to get done.....I get lost in that kind of stuff!! Old kitchen items really send me!! :) The painting was destiny!! It's lovely and perfect for you!! And the basket on your front door is a super idea!! I'll be looking out for how you fill it!! :) I was able to find some neat buttons as well as a new-ish sewing machine at a yard sale this weekend...that was exciting!!

You scored some great finds. The American Pickers (do you watch that show?) would love those oil cans! CAS

Ooo, can't wait to see what you do with your door basket! I'd love to find something like that -- so many uses! The tablecloth is a fabulous find too!

Lynn, I can't wait to see flowers in the basket. I know they'll look beautiful. The tablecloth is such fun. What lovely condition you find linens in. The yellow just pops for the warmer weather months. Of course you couldn't pass up the perfectly suited and delightfully rendered painting. It's as if it was made for your cottage on the creek. Wow, warm temperatures for your neck of the woods. Here, too, in Texas we are having 80s and humidity already. In a couple of weeks I would like to feature your blog and shops on Leisure Lane. Would that be alright with you? I'll let you know when I plan on doing it, and I'll need some photos from your blog and shops with your permission. I'll use them only for the featured post. Enjoy the day, and God bless you, Marianne xo

Hi, Lynn - glad we found each other. Your blog is beautiful, and yes, we do like the same things - including this AMAZING upstate New York weather! I'm in the Finger Lakes town of Skaneateles, about 1/2 hour from Syracuse and 1 hour from Rochester.

The oil cans create such a nice silhouette. I think the painting you chose is beautiful. What a fabulous find!
